Several friends have been in touch, wondering what's up with me. It's not surprising, given that my last post was in July. The explanation is simple, of course. The virus lock down in so many places has pretty much eliminated the fun of travel. Why bother taking a trip if there's almost nothing to do once you arrive? At the same time, I've stayed pretty busy here in AZ, watching the last months of construction on my new home, ordering furniture and then moving in. The virus has also impacted availability of many things, including furniture and accessories. Thankfully, the stuff I really needed arrived on schedule, so I never had to sleep on the floor and always had food in the house. Now, nearly three months after moving in, I'm happy to say that all furniture has arrived, except for a couple replacements for items damaged in shipment. I'm pleased with the end result and I want to share it with you.
Bear in mind that this house is significantly smaller than the one in Montrose, better matching my true needs and willingness to care for. Also, very few homes here have lawns due to concerns with water conservation in the desert. There is a drip system to provide for plants.
There is a small foyer adjoining the eat-in kitchen.
Here are opposing views of the living area. The fireplace is really nice on chilly mornings, and the TV is great for watching football games and golf.
Through the double doors is the master bedroom and bath.
The guest bath and bedroom are just off the foyer.
My office is situated between the bedrooms, adding a buffer for better privacy. The small laundry room is just large enough for washer/dryer and a path to the garage.
All in all, I find this smaller home to be quite comfortable, certainly meeting my needs. Sierra Vista, while larger than Montrose, is still a small town and fairly isolated. The people here have been welcoming and friendly, while also displaying the most desirable qualities of "country folks". It appears to be well away from the chaos happening in so much of the country.
One of the things attracting me here in the first place is the frequency of beautiful sunrises and sunsets, so I'll share just a few of those with you.
I don't expect to be traveling any time soon, probably not until Spring. In the meantime, I'm thinking of posting some re-runs from my early days in the motor home. Let me know what you think of that idea.
