New York State, 2001 (Re-run)

I've gotten some encouragement (and it didn't take much) to fill the idle time during COVID-19 to re-post images from my earlier years of motor home travel.  Photos earlier than 2001 were on film and the resulting prints are stored in albums, not conducive to sharing.  Therefore I'll start with a few from 2001, when I had my first digital camera, rated at 2.1 megapixel.  The technology has improved so much since then.

Niagara Falls was a memorable stop, so I tried to photograph it from every angle on both sides of the border.  It's a good thing, since I've never been back.

The "Maid of The Mist" boats and the "Cave of The Winds" are major attractions.  Actually, the "cave" collapsed many years ago, but the name is still used for the tour that allows visitors to walk behind the falls.

Not far from the falls, a shrine to Our Lady of Fatima draws many visitors to its lovely grounds, including its heart-shaped pond.

Letchworth State Park may not be widely known, but is a favorite of those who live in the Northeast.  It has three spectacular waterfalls, one with an old train bridge running overhead.  I believe the bridge is now gone, not surprising given the sketchy appearance even back then.

No trip to upstate NY would be complete without a stop at Lake Placid, not only a beautiful area in the Adirondack Mountains, but home to the Winter Olympics twice.  In 1932, Sonja Henie won her second gold medal in figure skating before embarking on a fabulous movie career.  Of course, the 1980 games are known for the "Miracle On Ice", when the over-achieving U.S. men's hockey team beat the powerful (and professional) Russian team and won the gold medal.

Despite the poor quality of the photos, it brought back good memories to compose this posting.  Unfortunately, that trip ended abruptly on Sept. 12.  After the attack on the Trade Center, there was just no enthusiasm for continuing.
