Genoa, NV - October 10 & 15, 2021

I visited the charming village of Genoa in May, 2020, and posted a travelogue that you may recall.  If not, or if you need a refresher, here is a link to that travelogue Genoa, NV Travelogue.  During Randy's visit, we returned to Genoa so he could enjoy the town.  Through lucky coincidence, we arrived to find a vintage automobile show was underway.  What a great collection of restored cars!  We certainly enjoyed seeing these beautiful vehicles, as well as the adorable homes and buildings that make up the town.

We were intrigued by the statue of Snowshoe Thompson on the grounds of the state park in Genoa.  According to Wikipedia, Thompson was born in Norway and came to America at 10 years of age, eventually living in Placerville, CA and then Carson Valley, NV.  For a period of twenty years he delivered mail from Placerville to Genoa, traversing the Sierra Nevada mountains.  Despite his nickname, he did not use snowshoes, but rather ten-foot skis he had learned to use in Norway.  His round trips took five days to complete, a little longer during blizzards.  Amazingly, he was never paid for his service.

After Randy's return to FL, I went back to Genoa to scope out the falls colors that were starting at the time of the car show.  The leaves had changed quite a bit during the five days between visits, and I was pleased at the display.  I also added photos of a few homes that were missed earlier.
