New Brunswick, Canada - July 15 - 18, 2006 (Re-run)

Medical Update: My second round of chemo therapy ended several weeks ago and I am gradually recovering from the many side effects and feeling better as time passes.  The good news is that my CT scan and MRI indicate the tumor has been eliminated. Yayyyyy!  I haven't discussed these results with my oncologist (scheduled for next week), but I'm very pleased to get them.  I suspect there will be follow-up required, but no surgery.

We had visited New Brunswick before, but coming from the Gaspe Peninsula brought us into a new area.  We passed through many small villages in both Quebec and New Brunswick before stopping near the village of Grande Anse, French for "large cove".  The name is appropriate since the village is located on a bay off the Gulf of St. Lawrence.

As with all the Atlantic Provinces, fishing is a major industry here, with lobster being the primary catch.  Since the lobster season is rather short, most lobster boats are put into dry dock when not in use.

Nearby was Shippegan Parish, which consists of the tip of a peninsula and three islands beyond the tip.  Once again, beautiful flowers were plentiful in this village, as were charming churches.

One of the islands, Miscou Island, had beautiful views of the gulf coast.  There were also lots of jellyfish in the tidal pools.

After four days, we moved on, stopping in the town of Richibucto, where St. Louis de Gonzague Roman Catholic Church is a notable landmark. Of course, there were other churches to catch our eye, as well as many icons of the seafaring life of the residents.
