Pine Mountain & Warm Springs, GA - April 17 & 18, 2005 (Re-run)

After such an extensive and wonderful trip in 2004, we knew it would be difficult to match it in 2005, but we had to try.  We had long wanted to visit Callaway Gardens, so that was first on the agenda.  Known as a world class resort, Callaway Gardens offers year-round activities such as hiking, biking, water sports and golf.  However, it is most famous for its beautiful gardens and that was our primary interest.  You may feel there is an excess of flowers shown here, but this is but a small sampling of what I took.  The beauty of their gardens in Spring was just too tempting.

There was also a lovely chapel that begged to be photographed, so I obliged.

Warm Springs was President Franklin Roosevelt's favorite retreat, not only to get away from cold northern Winters, but to receive treatment for his polio.  His visits are still this little town's claim to fame, and he is still the featured attraction.  His Winter home and the polio treatment facilities are proudly displayed.  He died there on April 12, 1945, shortly before the end of World War II.
