California Coast (3/7/2020)

The central California coast is arguably one of the prettiest places in our beautiful country.  First, there is the rugged, often rocky shoreline with imposing cliffs.  Then there are the green rolling hills and peaks of the coastal mountain range.  Throw in a climate that seems to be perfect for growing a variety of plants with colorful blooms.  Finally, the people who live here have done a great job of preserving and enhancing what nature has provided.  The small towns along the coast are in harmony with the environment and actually add to the overall ambience.

The small town of Cambria is a good example.  The downtown area and some original houses are in a valley well below the Coast Highway.  The homes are quaint cottages for the most part, with charming features and attractive landscapes.

Newer homes are found across the highway, going up and over the hills to the shoreline.  Here the houses are larger and more spectacular, but what really appeals to me are the outstanding gardens.

The beach is similar to other coastal areas.

The village of Harmony is tiny, only a few buildings.  Many years ago, the several dairy farms in the valley were extremely competitive, leading to feuding and fighting and one shooting death.  Eventually, they saw the advantage of working together and formed a cooperative.  That's how the name Harmony came into being.  Now it is more of a tourist draw to buy crafts and dairy products, as well as a venue for weddings and other parties.

    1. Thanks for the update, ME. Glad it worked. Traveling alone is about as safe as one can get. My big risk is shopping at WalMart (today). Maybe it will all be over before your Summer trip.
