Page, Arizona, Part 3 - February 24, 2006 (Re-run)

One of the main attractions near Page is a unique land formation that forced the Colorado River to make a giant twist.  Known as Horseshoe Bend, it has become very popular, drawing huge crowds of tourists to make the 1.5 mile hike.  I've made the trek nearly a dozen times over the years, each time hoping for different and better lighting.

Page is close to the Utah border, so it's reasonable to visit some of the special places located in that state, such as Cottonwood Canyon.  Created by the Paria River, this canyon is adjacent to the monocline known as "The Cockscomb".   Nearly fifty miles long, Cottonwood Canyon offers many spectacular views of the tortured past endured by this region.  Within the canyon are colorful formations, slot canyons and soaring arches.
