Tuba City, Arizona - February 17 & 18, 2006 (Re-run)

Tuba City is a town of about 8000 residents, mostly Navajo but a few Hopi.  About fifty miles east of Grand Canyon, the town is located where Navajo and Hopi lands join near the western edge of the Painted Desert.  Nature's beauty is all around Tuba City, but very few tourists visit.  I've stopped there several times as one of the local hotels also has a decent RV park that is convenient for exploring the area.

Dinosaur tracks embedded in sandstone are not uncommon in the American Southwest, but the ones found here are larger than most, up to three feet long.  A young Navajo boy marked the tracks with chalk and water for tips, although they are readily visible without his help.  Dinosaur fossils can also be seen in places.

This area gets beautiful sunsets and sunrises.

Nearby Red Lake Village has unusual formations, such as the Elephant Feet Buttes.
