Some may recall my solo visit to North Coyote Buttes (The Wave) in 2006, when I was the only entrant for the walk-in lottery. In 2007, I wanted to share the experience with my brother and SIL, who flew into St. George and drove to Kanab. We managed to get permits, despite having thirteen people in the lottery for ten permits. It was a beautiful day, even though we found small patches of snow on the ground. By the time we returned, temps had soared into the 80s.
This challenging hike starts in Utah, then crosses into Arizona. The scenery along the way is spectacularly rugged, the ultimate destination difficult to comprehend, with incredible shapes and colors that defy explanation. I don't think photos do it justice.
