Boulder Mountain lies to the west of Capitol Reef N P, topping out at more than 11,300 feet above sea level. With more than 80 small lakes, the mountain is considered to be a fly fisherman's paradise. It's also quite popular for tent camping, but we were only interested in its outstanding scenery.
Once we passed over the mountain, we came to the town of Boulder and took a left turn onto the Burr Trail. Paved for a fair distance, Burr Trail runs through Long Canyon, providing more remarkable scenery. The trail eventually leads to Lake Powell, but on this day we only went part way before returning to our campsite.
