Cathedral Valley is a remote section of Capitol Reef National Park that has become quite popular, but in 2007 was not so well known. We learned of it from a Ranger at the Visitor Center, who also explained the strategy for crossing the Fremont River without getting stuck. Once across, we were amazed at the hills of bentonite, a colorful volcanic ash that covered a huge area.
