Bend is located in Central Oregon on the eastern slope of the Cascade Mountain Range, the "dry" side of the mountains where they get about 12 inches of rain each year and not much snow. The official town population is just over 100,000 people, but the metropolitan area is twice that number. With the Deschutes River running through town, nearby mountains such as Bachelor, Three-finger Jack, Broken Top and the Tree Sisters, waterfalls, lakes, volcanic areas, etc, etc, Bend gets a lot of tourists. All outdoor recreational activities are available within a short drive. Bend has witnessed a lot of growth in recent years, much of it folks who love Oregon but want to get away from the problems in Portland.
