Monument Valley, Utah - March 14, 2006 (Re-run)

Having seen the beauty of Zion N P covered in snow, I was hoping to see snow once we got to Monument Valley.  In Kayenta, a Navajo town less than 25 miles from Monument Valley, there was quite a bit of snow on the ground, giving us some hope.

Unfortunately, we found very little snow in Monument Valley.  Still, it is such a magnificent landscape, we enjoyed our time driving through the valley.

You may know that film director John Ford made Monument Valley famous when he filmed the movie "Stagecoach" there in 1939.  It was the first of many movies to be made there, and also John Wayne's first role.  The flat piece of land on the right was named "John Ford Point" by the Navajo to honor their friendship with him.
