Dallas Divide, CO (9/30/2018) & Red Mountain Pass, CO (10/3/2018)

I hope you aren't tired of fall color photos but, if you are, feel free to skip this travelogue.

Dallas Divide is an area west of Ridgway and north of the San Juan Mountains. It's a very popular place for people viewing and photographing the fall color with the mountains as a backdrop.   Several pull-outs have been added along the highway, allowing people to stop in relative safety to get their photos.

In that same area, Last Dollar Road leads into the mountains, providing a different perspective of the mountains, but still lots of color.

This old house was used in the original "True Grit" movie, filmed here in 1968.  The current owner appears to be doing some improvement around the property, but nothing is being done to preserve the house.  The entire front porch is gone, and the roof shows signs of deterioration.
Another road into the mountains is County Road 9, which cuts through Ralph & Ricki Lauren's 17,000 acre ranch.

After a few rainy days I was out again, hoping the rains had not destroyed the fall color.  While lots of leaves had been knocked to the ground, there were still plenty on the trees.  Starting in Ouray, the "Million Dollar Highway" is always a scenic delight, even more so in the fall.  I was amazed, and extremely pleased, that traffic the day I was there was a small fraction of what I've seen in past years.
