Yellowstone National Park, Part 4 - July 14-19, 2007 (Re-run)

Leaving Yellowstone through the northeast entrance puts you on the Beartooth Highway, which travels through the Beartooth Mountains, crossing between Wyoming and Montana several times.  One of the most scenic routes in America, the Beartooth Highway twists and turns for 69 miles to Red Lodge, Montana, reaching about 11,000 feet in elevation then dropping to 5000 at the end.  The Beartooth range has 20 mountains over 12,000 feet high., and more than 300 lakes, and lots of wildlife, and lots of wildflowers in season.  The road opens on Memorial day each years, then closes in early October, depending on how soon the snow makes it impassable.  Although we had made the trip before, we once again drove to Red Lodge, then returned the same day.
