Moab, Utah, Part 2 - April 17, 2007 (Re-run)

Moab is technically in the desert, getting about nine inches of rain and nine inches of snow each year.  Still, there are enough creeks flowing down from higher elevations so that many plants survive, even thrive, in these harsh conditions.

The area around Moab is famous for its 4WD trails that attract enthusiasts from all over the country, especially around the Easter Jeep Safari.  Off-roading, whether in Jeeps, ATVs or custom vehicles, has become a major activity, even for families.  One of the easier trails is Long Canyon, a rough road about eight miles long that gains about 2200 feet of elevation, going from Moab to near Canyonlands National Park.  Driving this road takes one past spectacular scenery, especially when looking back from near the top.  The most interesting part may be Pucker Pass, where the trail goes under a huge leaning boulder.
