Moab, Utah, Part 5 - April 19 & 20, 2007 (Re-run)

One of the neat things about Arches N P is that you can see some of the major arches and other interesting formations just by driving around on the main roads.  Lots of visitors see the park without hiking at all, just minimal walking at key viewpoints.  Of course, hiking enables you to reach lots more of the parks unique features.

By taking a jet boat tour on the Colorado River, we saw the area from a totally different perspective.  There were several stops where short hikes brought us to petrified logs, some still embedded in the sandstone, and some fossilized sea shells, reminding us that this region has been under the sea multiple times.  There were more arches, some natural caves and a few tunnels dug by miners.  We also encountered a lot of folks enjoying the river on rafts, canoes and kayaks.
