Lamoille is a small ranching community, population 276, that lies in a valley at the base of the Ruby Mountains. Every time I'm in this area, I drive up Lamoille Canyon, a place of extreme beauty. Starting at 6100 feet, the twelve mile long canyon reaches 11,000 feet in elevation, but the road ends at 8800 feet. I had never been here so early in the year, so got to enjoy a taste of winter.
We made a quick stop at the wildlife reserve to checkout the waterfowl, then went to an old fashioned roundup and branding at a local ranch.
