Montrose, Co (12/24/2016)

It has been quite a while since I posted a Travelogue, but I have been busy.  It will take a few updates to catch up, but I'm working on doing that.

If you don't like sunrises and sunsets, you can skip this posting.  All the photos here were taken on Christmas Eve, when we enjoyed very colorful skies at both sunrise and sunset.  There was still a little snow on the ground from the last snowfall, and the clouds on that very cold morning turned more pink and lavender than usual.

When the sun finally began to break the horizon, bright yellows were dominant.  However, this was one where almost the entire sky was lit up, with different colors depending on the direction one looked.

As I was driving around looking for good compositions, I noticed a bird hovering over the road about 100 yards away.  Knowing this is something done by kestrels, I rushed to a spot below him and saw it was in fact a kestrel.  Not having my birding lens, I had to make do with what I had, and it was still dark, too.  To show the bird at all, I had to enlarge and lighten the photo so much that the sky is an unnatural shade.  Too bad, it was worth it to get a decent image of the bird itself.
The sunset that evening started out rather pinkish, also, but soon turned a fiery orange, with unusual rays punching through the heavy clouds.  All this must have had something to do with the arrival of Santa.

    1. I don't do it that often, but always feel good about getting a brilliant sunrise.
